TYPHOON "OMPONG" HAS SLIGHTLY ACCELERATED WHILE MAINTAINING ITS STRENGTH.
  • The typhoon continues to threaten Northern Luzon.
  • Occasional rains and gusty winds will be experienced over the areas under TCWS #1.
  • TY "OMPONG" is expected to make landfall in the northern tip of Cagayan on Saturday morning (September 15)
  • Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of areas under TCWS #1, and the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Visayas and of Mindanao.

    Location of eye/center: At 4:00 AM today, the eye of Typhoon "OMPONG" was located based on all available data at 855 km East of Virac, Catanduanes (14.3 °N, 132.1 °E)
    Strength: Maximum sustained winds of 205 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 255 km/h

    ->Very light or no damage to high risk structures,
    ->Light damage to medium to low risk structures
    ->Slight damage to some houses of very light materials or makeshift structures in exposed communities. Some banana plants are tilted, a few downed and leaves are generally damaged
    ->Twigs of small trees may be broken.
    ->Rice crops, however, may suffer significant damage when it is in its flowering stage.

    The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next Severe Weather Bulletin to be issued at 11 AM today.
